Hey! I'm Megan,
I am a Certified Holistic Nutritionist (CNP) on a mission to help real people make real changes to their health with a realistic holistic approach.
Like you, I am a real person. I have stresses and obligations, family and friends to keep up with, work deadlines to meet and dirty laundry piling up so high I figure its probably just easier to buy new clothes. I do enjoy a ridiculous starbucks mocha-peppermint-pumpkin-java-lata-nana every once in while and yes, sometimes I watch Netflix for so long that it asks me if I’m still there. However, I also believe in taking care of your health, because if you don’t you won’t be able to get all those “to-do’s” done or enjoy all those little things in life. I know because I’ve experienced it first hand.
When I was doing my undergrad at the University of Toronto I did a specialist in Theatre and Drama Studies, which combines a degree from U of T with a diploma from Sheridan College. This squeezed 6 years of work into 4 years. I commonly had 12 hour school days, while also working as a personal trainer, writing for the school paper, taking singing lessons and still trying to keep up on the lastest issues of The Amazing Spiderman. – Yes, I’m also a comic book nerd. – I ran myself into the ground, not because I was doing so much but because I wasn’t balancing it with good nutiriton and lifestyle habits. I was always eating on the go, had as many cups of coffee as I could in a day and didn’t sleep if I could help it. I did always have a mind for nutrition but at the time I thought calories was all that mattered so I avoided fats and limited carbs, I loaded up on Splenda and I drank diet soda galore. All of this added up to a downward spiral. My grades started slipping, I was always grumpy, I didn’t want to socialize and I always felt sick. I had become severely underweight, clinically depressed, my hormones were completely out of whack and my adrenals were completely shot. I was later also diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I hit a point where I had to gain some respect for my body and figure out how the heck I was going to get myself better.
Nutrition and a balanced lifestyle got me better. The medical community didn't seem to know what to do with me. Healing my body with food was the only thing that worked for me. I had to take the time to figure out what worked best for me and give my gut a chance to heal. From there, everything follows. I saw first hand how total health stems from the health of the gut. When digestion is on point and you are getting the nutrients you need, your body has a pretty magical way of sorting itself out.
I still do a lot, I’m a busy young entrepreneur, but now I know how to balance the hard work and jam packed schedule with healthy meals I can bring with me, mindful eating, foods that will improve my stamina and mental focus, and practices that will calm my body and mind at the end of the day for a damn good nights sleep.
Everyone needs to take different steps and make those changes that will work for them and their real person lives. I work with individuals to find the best way for them to achieve their best balance. I don’t expect you to stop watching TV, go live in a treehouse and only eat spinach for a year. I expect you to be you. I will help you and find the real you in your own real way for your own real life… did I say real too many times?
